School-to-work transitions in apprenticeship-based VET systems: The swiss approach

Experience of School Transitions: Policies, Practice and Participants
Journal · Vol. 9789400741980 · pp. 123-139
Abstract

This chapter discusses school-to-work transitions in the framework of apprenticeship-based vocational education and training. It is argued that the strong link to the labour market and the occupation-specific curricula - which are the trademarks of such systems - may facilitate school-to-work transitions, while at the same time bringing forward specific transition risks before, during and after apprenticeships. Empirical analyses focusing on school-to-work pathways of lower achieving school-leavers are used to underline the arguments. © 2012 Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht.
