Abstract

The main aims of this chapter are to summarize the findings on what works, what does not work, what is promising and what is unknown in preventing crime in seven institutional settings in which crime prevention takes place, and to bring together the main conclusions of the book. We hope that this book has made progress towards the evidence-based ideal, where conclusions about crime prevention effectiveness based on the highest quality science are used by policymakers as the basis of local, state and national policies on preventing crime. © 2002 Editorial matter and selection, Lawrence W.
