The Peripheralisation of Youth in the Labour Market: Problems, Analyses and Opportunities: Britain and the Federal Republic of Germany

Contemporary Education Policy
Journal · pp. 139-163
Abstract

This paper considers the process of the transition from school to work in two societies, Britain and the Federal Republic of Germany. The economic fortunes of the two societies have been very different. In comparison with that of Britain the German economy, at least until the onset of the recession from 1973 onwards, experienced steady growth in output, productivity and earnings and all of this was achieved with one of the lowest rates of inflation in Western Europe and a strong currency. © 1983 John Ahier and Michael Flude.
