Student Insights into the FILA Strategy in Project-Based Learning at Darunsikkhalai School for Innovative Learning

Abstract

Although the FILA (Facts, Ideas, Learning Issues, and Action Plan) strategy is widely used in Project-Based Learning, little is known about students' experiences with it in the classroom. This study explores insights gained from upper school students working with FILA. The participants consisted of 10 students, six females (60%) and four males (40%), with an average age of 14.5 years. The interviews were conducted and lasted between 10 and 25 minutes each. Thematic analysis revealed seven themes: (1) Structured Planning and Project Management, (2) Research and Knowledge Building, (3) Problem Solving and Adaptability, (4) Communication and Team Collaboration, (5) Creativity and Innovation, (6) Challenges and Areas for Improvement, and (7) Practical Applications and Academic Benefits. The results advance the understanding of students' engagement with FILA in practice, its function in PBL, and offer recommendations for curriculum design. © 2025 IEEE.
