Objectives: This study examines the impact of surrealist thinking on graphic design, particularly in graphic design education. Surrealism’s unconventional approach and emphasis on illogical, dream-like visuals offer new creative perspectives and techniques, catering to diverse aesthetic demands and invigorating the art and design field. Methods: Research methods include case studies, practical training, iconography analysis, literature review, and a questionnaire survey targeting designers, students, and enthusiasts to gauge their understanding and use of surrealist concepts. Conclusion: The study concludes that surrealist thinking enhances design skills in composition, color, and creative expression, fostering innovation and deepening the impact of design work. Surrealist-related courses and workshops are integrated into graphic design curricula, and the design industry is encouraged to host exhibitions and seminars on surrealist design. Contribution: Despite limitations, such as a focus on Western designers and insufficient exploration of Eastern cultural contexts, and challenges in long-term follow-up research in emerging fields, the study significantly contributes to theoretical and practical understanding of surrealist design, enriching academic research, informing commercial design, aiding brand and product promotion, and fostering cultural exchange and innovation in graphic design education. © 2025, Artseduca.
