This chapter examines the impact of the greening of the economy on employment and skills. The transition to a net-zero carbon economy is destroying some jobs while creating others, although not always in the same sectors or locations. The chapter examines the employment effects of the green transformation in the automotive sector and the quality of emerging green jobs. The chapter shows that restructuring related to green transitions is closely related to processes of technological change involving digitalization, automation, and the increasing role of artificial intelligence (AI). The chapter also discusses the potential consequences of green transitions for inequality and considers the policy implications. © Jason Heyes, Janine Leschke, Kirsty Newsome, Michael Reich and Adrian Wilkinson 2025.
