Research trends of artificial intelligence in vocational education: A bibliometric analysis (2001-2023)

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology affects all sectors of human life activities. The world of education is a sector that must immediately adjust to digital technology development. The study aims to reveal research trends over 2001-2023 by content analysis and to examine bibliometric results of articles related to using artificial intelligence (AI) in vocational education. For bibliometric mapping analysis, 214 articles were accessed, and for content analysis between 2001 and 2023, years were included from the Scopus. Our results revealed the number of publications by year, country, most productive authors, most cited articles, the co-occurrence network, and the evolution map theme. R Studio Software with bibliometric packages used to analyze the metadata. The results showed that China had been the highest country in publications. Most publications are from the Journal of Physics: Conference Series. The most productive author is Zhang, Y, from China. It is not surprising as they are probably the leading authors on AI in the literature. Although most topics in this subject are medicine and health, 5 of 10 cited articles have education topics. Thematic evolution in the future includes "vocational education."The future roadmap study has been recommended for the researcher. © 2024 Author(s).
