Developing Mentee Skills: A Curriculum Guide

Abstract

The transition to the practice period presents challenges for both new graduates and their employers. Mentorship can support veterinary students' preparation for their career and improve their transition to practice. To actively and productively engage in mentoring, veterinary colleges can prepare students to develop their skills as mentees. The Western College of Veterinary Medicine developed a pilot mentee skills training program, woven through students' 4-year professional education. The curriculum emphasizes self-directed learning skills and competencies essential for lifelong learning. The pilot curriculum, with learning tools, is presented here. © 2022 AAVMC.
