Employers are requesting that sport educators engage in discussions to develop a robust sports workforce to meet the industry's immediate and future demands. This chapter aims to outline new employability and lifelong learning frameworks that can assist the career development of future and existing sports professionals. To start, a review of critical national and international workforce trends within the sports industry is provided, and the impact of international and national employer-led sectoral reviews on curricular development is considered. The aim is to stimulate ideas of balancing the competing principles of discipline traditions with the increasing influence of Professional Statutory Regulatory Bodies and the requirements of industry employers. The chapter then explores contemporary views of developing employability, including strategies that utilise work-related learning, work-based learning, career development learning, enterprise, and entrepreneurship education approaches. Finally, it is discussed that sectoral progression towards professionalisation of key sports roles, the influence of digitally enabled education, and an increasing interface between industry professionals and higher education institutions may require educators to move beyond traditional models of delivery and explore the development of signature pedagogies as well as use lifelong learning strategies within sport education programmes. © 2022 selection and editorial matter, Karen Petry and Johan de Jong; individual chapters, the contributors.
