Much has been written about capitalism's totalizing and globalizing march since the commencement of the neoliberal "revolution" in the 1970's. Neoliberalism's relentless pursuit of new markets (and expansion of existing ones) has invariably placed post-secondary education and the production of knowledge in its crosshairs. However, in a sector that treats knowledge as a "product" that can be compartmentalized, commodified, and sold on the open market, an often overlooked component of the knowledge production process is that the "product" being sold was created as a result of another person's (or group of people's) labour. As such, this paper seeks to analyze the transformation of the university into the "edu-factory" of the knowledge-based economy, and the impact of this transformation on efforts to resist neoliberalism (on and off campus). © 2026, IGI Global Scientific Publishing.
