Preparing students to be college and career ready upon graduation are top priorities for secondary schools in the United States. While college and career readiness are the major aims of secondary schools across the country, there remains little consensus of what this commitment entails. In this book chapter, I examine the literature on career academies as an exemplary high school reform initiative aimed at preparing students to be college and career ready. I then highlight areas of opportunities that the academy model might address related to educational inequities. I also discuss implementation, research, and best practices in equity-based college and career development of students to provide them with opportunities to successfully transition into postsecondary education and the workforce, specifically for economically disadvantaged and ethnically and racially diverse learners. I conclude the book chapter with recommendations for research, practice, and policy for ensuring students have access to equity-based college and career preparation.{/ABS} © 2022 Information Age Publishing Inc.
