VET, value generation and firm results: An empirical exploration from Spanish industrial firms

Apprenticeship in dual and non-dual systems: Between tradition and innovation
Journal · pp. 265-305
Abstract

The aim of this paper is to analyse the business strategies of Spanish firms in terms of Vocational Education and Training (VET), identifying and studying the general characteristics of Spanish manufacturing firms and their differences based on human resources employed with vocational qualifications from the Initial VET system. This analysis is developed quantitatively, within the framework of the Business Strategies Survey of SEPI Foundation, which is an annual panel survey, aimed at industrial manufacturing firms based in Spain. The survey referred to 2016 will incorporate, for the first time, some items related to VET, being surveyed 1800 industrial firms. This analysis is developed from a business strategic approach for competitive advantage as well as from a human capital approach in terms of human capacity and organisational building and the contribution of VET in firm results. The contribution that this research makes to the field lies in its novel comparative approach and in the quantitative scale of the sample. Nevertheless, as the research is exploratory, it requires further analysis in this significant scientific field. © Peter Lang Group AG, International Academic Publishers, Bern 2021.
