Abstract

This paper of the journal Gruppe. Interaktion. Organisation. (GIO) validates a set of competencies identified in the BMBF-funded project AgilHybrid for business model developing teams in traditional industrial companies. Organizations in the manufacturing sector are traditionally characterized by offering physical products. Digital change and shifting customer demands increasingly require these organizations to develop hybrid product-service systems, which places specific demands on the skills of the workforce. A considerable need for competence development is identified in this respect. Organizations that already offer digitally networked business models (DVGM) on the market differ from those that do not. The design of framework conditions for innovation, the equipping of the workforce with the relevant competencies, the size of the company as well as the application of agile methods of business model development differ. In addition, this article shows that industrial companies rely only marginally on digital methods for the competence development of their employees and rarely favor them. In addition to identifying the competencies required for the successful innovation of business models, it is essential to promote their development by providing suitable teaching and learning opportunities. These appear to be suitable if competencies can be developed in a work-related environment or through exchange with other learners. © 2021, Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, ein Teil von Springer Nature.
