This paper examines the crucial role of partnerships between universities and SMMEs in advancing the SDG. As hubs of innovation and knowledge, universities tackle global sustainability challenges, while SMMEs bring agility and practical insights to drive economic growth and innovation. Together, these partnerships enhance innovation, capacity building, and community development, amplifying sustainable development efforts. The study explores partnership models such as collaborative research, capacity- building programs, and joint ventures promoting sustainability. Using a mixed- methods approach, it highlights a case study with quantitative analyses and interviews involving university staff, students, and SMMEs. Findings reveal the motivations, challenges, and benefits of these collaborations, assessing their economic, social, and environmental impacts on SDG progress.
