Abstract

Research is an engine of development and equity that allows us to find new answers to the main challenges of society with the participation of those who know the topic. After diagnosing the dire situation of research on Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Spain, a committee of international experts came up with the 12 main challenges it faces in this country, following the previous analysis made by national researchers and experts on the subject. According to the opinion of the international committee, a common frame of reference with theoretical foundations and conceptual delimitations or a standardized research classification is not as necessary in their own countries as it is in Spain. They do consider an agenda, a strategic research plan and certain topics of research somewhat important, although fewer centers should be dedicated to analyzing them. What is very necessary, according to the international committee, is the existence of state networks of VET researchers, resources and funding, integration of the actors involved, ease of access to microdata and databases, as well as promoting communication channels with the autonomous communities, national and European entities. Conclusions of the international committee state that Spain needs the progressive and inclusive configuration of a VET research ecosystem, counting on the active participation of governmental, academic, economic and social agents committed to its development and interested in promoting VET through research and innovation. © 2021, Univ Nacional de Educacion a Distancia (UNED).
