Computer networks are one of the skills that require mastering concepts, but a weak comprehension of these concepts can cause cognitive and psychomotor challenges for students. Several studies showed that a group of information technology education students at a university struggled with basic network practical exercises, signifying the importance of addressing conceptual understanding. Therefore, this study aimed to enhance students’ comprehension of high-level abstract computer network materials. To achieve the desired outcome, a pre-test post-test control group design was conducted on two groups of 29 students each. The results showed a positive impact on strengthening the conceptual understanding of students. Consequently, the experimental class achieved higher test scores compared to the control class, with a difference of 11.6. Data processing also showed higher N-gain values in the experimental class, indicating that analogies had a positive influence on students’ conceptual understanding of computer network materials. © 2024, Institute of Advanced engineering and Science. This study analyses the scientific literature publications from 2015 to 2022 on collaborative learning published in the reputable database Scopus. The study uses the recommended preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analysis (PRISMA) protocol to conduct a systematic analysis of the literature. A total of 664 relevant journal articles were included following the PRISMA framework. The study examined trends in journal article publications, the field of study in which the collaborative learning approach is applied, the participants used as study subjects, and the first authors' country of affiliation. The review highlights a significant growth in the amount of educational research that utilizes collaborative learning approaches. Researchers paid more attention to studies that focused on tertiary education settings, next on elementary school environments and a few studies examined collaborative learning within the context of the workplace. Based on the International Standard Classification of education (ISCED) fields of study, many of the collaborative learning studies conducted over the recent four years (2019–2022) were aimed at enhancing students’ performance in multidisciplinary settings, followed by computing and physical sciences. This research aims to examine the effect of digital teaching materials based on their classification on learning achievement at various levels of education . The research design is a systematic literature review (SLR). The stages of conducting a review consist of three major parts: planning, conducting, and reporting. The articles reviewed in this study were drawn from reputable academic databases. The inclusion criteria for this research are as: i) indexed by Scopus; ii) the specified time is 15 years; iii) the research subjects must be students; iv) the minimum number of research participants is 15 people; and v) the article must be a scientific research article. The exclusion criteria in this study are article topics that are outside the field of education . The procedure used to analyze the results of the research obtained using a literature survey. The results showed that the advantages of digital teaching materials, in general, are: i) easy to apply; ii) low-cost; iii) highly flexible; and iv) broad. Each type of digital teaching material has several impacts on learning achievement, including: increasing scientific activities; improving students’ independent learning, self-reflection and metacognitive; reducing learning difficulties; and creating the impression that learning is fun. © 2024, Institute of Advanced engineering and Science. This study investigates the implementation of learning outcomes-based education in mechanical engineering , focusing on students aspiring to pursue teaching careers. By using constructive alignment and reflective thinking methodologies, the study aims to enhance these students’ competencies in line with professional teaching standards. The study targets a group of 23 mechanical engineering students. The researcher’s established learning process forms the basis for the study methodology, incorporating learning objectives, active learning, and reflective thinking. The tools employed include a knowledge measurement test, activity evaluation through observation participation, follow-up on a permitted 5-level activity, reflection on learning experiences through writing, structuring learning activities in each subject, and assessment using qualitative content analysis. The results reveal significant variations in students’ academic achievements before and after the study, indicating moderate learning progress. The assessments of management learning performance are comprehensive, with learners engaging at the highest average level. This study underscores the significance of reflective learning approaches in developing competencies that align with professional teaching standards, enhancing students’ capacity to critically assess their thoughts, feelings, and attitudes, thereby influencing their actions and preparing them for real-world applications. © 2024 by the authors of this article.

This study aims to compare the effectiveness of the Flipped Classroom approach with YouTube videos and conventional methods in improving student learning in calculus courses, especially in the field of Mechanical engineering . Quasi-experimental research was conducted with a sample of 50 calculus students. Pretest was given after three sessions of self-paced learning using YouTube videos, while posttest was conducted after conventional learning method. Data analysis used descriptive statistics, paired t-test with p-value=0.00, and qualitative analysis of student feedback. Findings from this study revealed that after engaging in self-directed learning through videos, followed by reinforcement through conventional classroom learning, students' understanding improved significantly. The results indicate the importance of incorporating discussion and interactive problem-solving activities in mathematics education , as opposed to relying solely on self-study approaches. The implications of these findings suggest that a combination of Flipped Classroom and conventional methods can improve learning outcomes in calculus. The calculated Cohen's d value is approximately 0.682. This effect size indicates a medium-sized difference between the posttest and pretest scores. It suggests that the conventional learning method has a moderate positive impact on improving students' learning achievement in calculus compared to the flipped classroom with YouTube videos. The effect size calculation provides additional insight into the practical significance of the observed difference in scores between the two groups. © 2024 Author(s).

Purpose: The number of passengers in the aviation sector following COVID-19 has recovered in 2023 and is 5% higher than it was in 2019. The average annual growth of air travel is predicted to be 3.2% between 2019 and 2039. This means the need for aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services will also increase. Moreover, the stakeholders require lower costs, higher effectiveness/market share and sustainability. These expectations can be realized only with the identification, development and implementation of new innovations while improving and optimizing the already used processes and procedures. Since only highly qualified graduates can reach these requirements, the need for profession-specific MSc and PhD level engineers has elevated significantly. The purpose of this paper is to introduce the development and implementation of a new MRO higher educational framework program in strong cooperation with enterprises and universities. Design/methodology/approach: The emphasis is placed on the program’s scouting, investigation, development, realization and evaluation by defining key performance indexes and aiming for the optimal solution for all participants. Findings: The result of this study is the establishment of a new educational framework, the reinvention of the MSc curriculum and the integration of PhD-level researchers in the industry in a way that fulfills the needs and requirements of the MRO sector. In return, it will give various benefits to all parties involved. Originality/value: The novelty of this work comes from creating a new educational MSc and PhD level framework that can push the MRO industry forward and fill the gap of missing engineers in this field. Plus, the newly developed program is highly flexible and can be used by other players in the economy after making some adaptions and modifications. © 2024, Emerald Publishing Limited.

The paper presents the results of a survey conducted among a total of 155 industrial engineering students from a Romanian public university to assess their awareness and concern about the facts and challenges imposed by the ongoing digital transformation. The study is based on a statistical analysis of the answers obtained from a questionnaire that contained closed-ended questions with predefined answers and open-ended questions where the respondents could express a personal point of view. Understanding the students’ needs and expectations, as well as the impact of the digital transition on their professional training and integration in a sustainable economy, will serve as a background upon which the quality of study programs can be improved by implementing appropriate measures. The results highlighted the necessity to supplement the curriculum with specialized courses in emerging technologies, to intensify students’ counseling on the digital transition, to upgrade the university’s infrastructure with equipment and software in the field of emerging technologies, to assist students with insufficient resources, and to stimulate women to participate in skilling, upskilling, and reskilling programs in STEM fields. These changes will expand the sustainable development principles in formal university education , ensure competency-centered learning, and increase access to inclusive and quality education . © 2024 by the authors.

Collaboration between the campus and the industrial world can bridge the gap that occurs between the campus and the industrial world, so that both can be integrated and synergized. This study qualitatively explored the contribution of maximizing work-integrated learning through industrial internships. The research findings from the perspective of three industry managers reveal that industrial internships can improve engineering students’ digital engineering competencies such as digital engineering observation and identification, basic and technical understanding of digital technology, work safety, predictive maintenance and programming skills to be ready to enter the workforce. The implications of the research reveal that through industrial internships students can learn from mistakes and challenges faced during industrial projects, for the development of their professional competencies. In addition, the experience and development of digital engineering competencies from the industrial world can be used as a reference for their final assignments, as well as enriching the quality of their research and academic reports, as it can bridge the gap between formal education and the demands in the ever-evolving world of work. © Authors.

The problem and the aim of the study. Modernized higher education provides great prospects for artificial intelligence technologies to be introduced when training engineers for knowledge-intensive and high-tech industries. Applying generative neural networks makes it possible to meet the requirements both for programs to train relevant specialists and for the level of developed skills key to Industry 4.0 and for further Industry 5.0. The purpose of the study is to identify the possibilities of using generative neural networks when training digital engineers to improve the quality of their professional training. Research methods. The authors consider the generative neural network as an open resource with which it is possible to design, individualize and fill educational content in accordance with the professional interests of the participants in the interaction. The choice of service is justified by the type of information being processed and the engineer's work function being implemented. 68 bachelors of Vyatka State University are involved (Russian Federation). Training program: 08.03.01 – Construction. Focus: hydraulic engineering , industrial and civil engineering , Digital technologies for the examination of construction sites and real estate management. The assessment of the quality (level) of training is carried out with the help of materials from the fund of complex qualification tasks. For statistical processing of data, Pearson's chi-squared test is used. Results. The directions of work of students of the experimental group studying the discipline "Information Technology", including interactive communication supported by neural networks: generation of images and 3D-models, search for original titles, selection of a list of references, construction of diagrams and algorithms, etc. Statistically significant differences were revealed in the changes that occurred in the pedagogical system (χ2 = 9.095; p < 0.05). Conclusion. The summary are formulated that neural network services contribute to improving the quality of training due to the following didactic capabilities: presentation of information in various forms, automation of calculations, analysis of large amounts of data, decision support, etc. Difficulties are also highlighted: constantly updated features of services, the English-language interface, compliance with copyright and ethics of interaction on the network. © 2024 LLC Ecological Help.
