Construction and Application of a Project-based Learning Mode for the Development of Computational Thinking in junior high school

The field of education in the digital era is undergoing tremendous changes, and computational thinking, as the basis for understanding and applying digital technologies, has become a key skill for learners in the 21st century. Challenges to the development of computational thinking in junior high school students include a single teaching method, teachers' overemphasis on programming language learning, a lack of systematic teaching content, and students' lack of problem-solving skills, which affect the development of computational thinking. Based on this, this study takes ninth-grade students as the research object, and adopts Quasi-experimental and Survey research methods under the guidance of constructivism theory, theory of mind and learning community theory to construct and validate a PBL teaching mode based on the cultivation of computational thinking in junior high school information technology curriculum. The results show that the PBL teaching mode for computational thinking cultivation is applied to the junior high school Mixly course to improve the computational thinking level of students. This study provides theoretical reference and practical significance for Mixly teaching oriented towards CT cultivation. © 2025 IEEE.

Racialised discourses on migrants and language skills in Finnish vocational education

This article examines how discourses on migrants, language skills, and the suitability of educational and vocational paths can racialise the students perceived as migrants in Finnish vocational education and training (VET). The study draws on observations and interviews with students and teachers on two differently gender-typed programmes, women-dominated dental technology and men-dominated mechanical engineering. In both programmes, most students have moved to Finland and started learning Finnish a few years before entering vocational education. Drawing on critical race theory and critical discourse analysis, the article identifies four discourses that racialise the students perceived as migrants. The discourse on VET as ‘a realistic choice for migrants lacking language skills’ in dental technology and the idealisation of ‘hard-working migrants’ in mechanical engineering encourage migrants’ entry to these programmes, but simultaneously racialise them. The discourse on ‘sufficient Finnish skills’ in mechanical engineering encourages, while the discourse on ‘high level of language proficiency’ in dental technology discourages migrants’ entry to the profession, and demonstrates that racism can be hidden behind the talk on language skills. Together, these discourses show that the processes of racialisation are mundane in VET and can direct people’s educational and occupational paths. © 2025 The Author(s). “Three Joints and Five Cooperations” model of university-enterprise collaboration from the perspective of new quality productive forces: A new way of talent cultivation at local university in China

In the contemporary epoch of novel productive forces, the cultivation of high-quality, application-oriented talent is imperative for the advancement of the new chemical materials industry. The proposed model is a “three joints and five collaborations” university-enterprise collaborative talent training model. The “three joints” refer to joint team building, joint talent training, and joint science and industry, whereas the “five cooperations” include cooperation in the establishment of training programs, teaching of quality management, cultivation of high-level students, promotion of industrial scientific research, and sharing of achievements. This model addresses the challenges faced by traditional talent cultivation modes in meeting the demands of new productive forces. The Applied Chemistry Program at Putian University, in collaboration with several leading enterprises in Fujian Province, has established internship bases, restructured the curriculum system, and strengthened practical teaching. These efforts have yielded substantial advancements in students’ application and innovation abilities. Notable outcomes include a 99% employment rate, with 25% of graduates pursuing further education, and 83% of employed graduates adapting “seamlessly” to technical roles. Furthermore, students have published over 100 papers and obtained more than 10 patents. The model has also facilitated the transformation of scientific research achievements into productive forces, generating significant economic benefits for the enterprises involved. This model offers a promising approach for local universities to cultivate high-quality talent that meets the demands of new productive forces. This study provides a valuable reference for the transformation, upgrading, and high-quality development of China’s new chemical materials industry and broader manufacturing sector. © The Author(s) 2025

Examining Technology Integration in Upper Secondary Schools: A Comparative Analysis Across School Programs and Subjects

This study contributes to the comprehensive understanding of technology integration quality within Swiss upper secondary schools by comparing different technology-enhanced learning activities across school programs and subject areas. We investigated differences between vocational and general programs, as well as between humanities and scientific subjects, regarding four different types of learning activities (as defined by the interactive constructive active passive framework) enhanced by technology. Results based on a survey of 1725 teachers revealed that teachers in vocational programs reported a higher frequency of technology-enhanced learning activity implementation in comparison to teachers in general education programs. Employing multilevel analyses, we found that less sophisticated learning activities (i.e., passive and active) were more prevalent in scientific subjects than in humanities, whereas constructive and interactive activities were more frequently proposed by teachers teaching humanities. This subject-related difference was significantly more pronounced among teachers in general education programs. Our study highlights the importance of considering the quality of technology integration, revealing differences across passive, active, constructive, and interactive technology-enhanced learning activities. The findings are interpreted with consideration for the specificities of school curricula and subject content. This study represents an ongoing progression in the exploration of technology integration quality in educational practices and calls for further research in this area. © The Author(s) 2025.

Bridging Computer Science and English education: A Curriculum Approach to Interdisciplinary Research and Teaching

In response to globalization and the growing need for interdisciplinary talents, this paper proposes an innovative English curriculum approach to nurture interdisciplinary research and teaching in universities. By integrating industry-relevant themes, interdisciplinary project-based learning, and contextualized language instruction, the curriculum bridges the gap between traditional language education and the demands of interdisciplinary collaboration. Leveraging new technologies such as AI and VR, it creates immersive, interactive learning environments that enhance creativity, critical thinking, and cross-disciplinary communication. The paper highlights challenges in implementation, including the need for innovative pedagogical frameworks and interdisciplinary collaboration, and suggests future directions, such as longitudinal studies, to evaluate the curriculum's effectiveness. Research on the Applications of Augmented Reality Technology in Air Conditioning Skills Training in Modern Apprenticeship

With the rapid development of information technology, the application of augmented reality technology in the field of education has attracted more and more attention. As a technology-intensive industry, refrigeration and air-conditioning industry requires more and more professional skills of employees. Traditional skills training methods are often limited to theoretical learning and basic operation, lacking interactive experience of real scenes, which is difficult to meet the teaching needs of modern apprenticeship. This paper first outlines the basic concepts of augmented reality and modern apprenticeship, and then analyzes several advantages of AR technology in teaching, including improving students' learning motivation and creating immersive learning environment. The article also discusses the application mode of AR technology in refrigeration and air conditioning skills training in detail, such as 2. 5 + 0. 5 training mode and curriculum system design, in order to improve the training effect through these methods and meet the needs of the industry for highly skilled personnel. © 2025 IEEE.

Implementation of Augmented Reality Technology for Cryptography Educational Media

Cryptography is often considered complex and difficult to learn due to its involvement of intricate and abstract mathematical concepts. The existing media and educational methods currently available do not fully meet the needs for effective and efficient learning in conveying this complex material. Conventional approaches are often insufficiently interactive and engaging for learners, potentially hindering the learning process. On the other hand, Augmented Reality (AR) technology has proven effective as an interactive and accessible learning medium, offering new ways to present complex material visually and dynamically. Therefore, this study aims to develop an Android application that integrates AR technology as an educational tool for cryptography and to evaluate its impact on the general public's understanding of cryptography. This research employs the ADDIE method, a systematic instructional design framework that includes five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. Additionally, the study integrates principles from the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) to ensure precise and structured development. The research findings indicate that AR can effectively serve as an interactive medium for learning cryptography and significantly enhance users' understanding of the subject. Specifically, t-test results demonstrated a statistically significant increase in cryptography understanding (p < 0.05) for both learners with and without prior knowledge, indicating the media's effectiveness across different educational backgrounds. Moreover, the AR-based cryptography learning system was well-received by the public, with User Acceptance Testing results showing an acceptance rate of over 90% in every aspect tested, highlighting its usability and design quality. © 2025 IEEE.

Aspects affecting learning management policy acceptance for teachers in vocational higher schools: a structural equation modelling approach

This study explores the factors influencing teacher performance in engineering and technology vocational schools, emphasising the pivotal role of teacher competence in determining the quality of Indonesian vocational education. Five key variables were evaluated: work motivation, work ethic, teacher performance, management innovation, and learning management. Data were collected using simple random sampling from 30 teachers in three vocational schools in Semarang, Indonesia. Factor analysis and regression analysis were conducted using second-order PLS-SEM to assess convergent and discriminant validity. Results indicate that work motivation (63.9%) and work ethic (28.2%) positively impact teacher performance, with all hypotheses accepted. The model achieved a Q2 score of 0.446, highlighting strong predictive relevance. Exogenous variables explain 69.8% of the variance in learning management. Therefore, schools are encouraged to enhance teacher performance by fostering work motivation and improving the learning process, from planning to execution. © © 2025 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.
