The education system serves as the primary producer of human capital, responsible for training competent personnel essential for the country's economic progress and rapid technological and economic development. Therefore, the educational standard aims to equip students with knowledge and skills necessary to capitalize on humanity's rapid progress, utilize modern achievements, and become active members of society. Moving beyond passive recipients of knowledge, students should transform into active learners capable of applying acquired knowledge for professional success and societal benefit. The paper explores the objectives of technical and science education , effectively implemented through STEM (Science, Technology, engineering , and Mathematics), an interdisciplinary practical teaching approach. STEM education empowers children to engage in experiments, make mistakes, and draw conclusions based on personal experiences rather than solely relying on textbook information. This approach fosters active student participation and cultivates competencies such as creative and critical thinking, independent information processing, imagination, and interpretation skills. Moreover, STEM education plays a crucial role in shaping future professions that contribute to national development. While important projects have been implemented within the framework of the Millennium Program of the General education School of Georgia to train STEM specialists, further efforts are needed. Effective school education and professional personnel training require a conducive school culture, qualified teachers, and abundant educational resources. To address this issue, our research utilized quantitative and qualitative methods, including questionnaire development, literature review, and analysis of international and local projects and training programs. These efforts aim to lay the groundwork for the preparation of STEM specialists. The paper seeks to answer key questions: Who should teach STEM, and how should STEM be taught? By ensuring the education of future generations capable of contributing to the country's economic development, political stability, and security, we aim to foster a prosperous and sustainable society. © 2024 The Authors.

This paper reports on a narrative review of the criticality of problem-solving and troubleshooting skills for undergraduate Electronics engineering students and its significance for industry readiness. The review was undertaken to understand the problems and troubleshooting skills learned and possessed by the Electronics engineering training programme for students in higher education . It is argued that the curriculum designed for undergraduate engineering students does not include troubleshooting. The essential criticality of troubleshooting in electronics engineering education is well described in this review. The narrative review of the literature covered peer-reviewed papers that focus on problem-solving and troubleshooting and were published in English between 2000 and 2022. Findings from the articles meeting relevant criteria were synthesised into themes. The review found that although problem-solving is seen broadly as a critical skill required for engineers in engineering education , most engineering programmes emphasise design problem-solving, such as in designing products, engineering processes, systems, and methods. Other essential problems involving technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills are critical for their future career development but are inadvertently neglected in the curriculum. The study considered some implications for curriculum reform in Electronics engineering programmes. The study further offers insights into the complexities and gaps in the Electronics engineering curriculum and novice undergraduates’ troubleshooting skills. © 2024 The Author(s). The article reviews the concept of secondary language identity, which is an individual's adaptation and assimilation of a new linguistic and cultural framework distinct from their primary language identity. The focus of the paper is on identifying various components that constitute secondary language identity, including linguistic proficiency, cultural competence, social adaptability, and cognitive flexibility. The authors make an attempt to investigate the ways secondary language identity affects engineers' professional activity in particular through enhancing their communication skills, supporting intercultural exchange, and improving workplace adaptability. The established correlation between the universal competencies built during engineer's professional training and components of secondary language identity represents the novelty of the research. Finally, the article proposes pedagogical strategies for fostering secondary language identity in university-level English classes, emphasizing immersive experiences, intercultural communication practice, and the integration of authentic materials to simulate real-world language use © 2024 IEEE.

The development of information technology has changed the world of education , including the application of e-learning in universities. This study explores how e-learning can improve the academic achievement and critical thinking skills of automotive engineering students who rely on gadgets. Using the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS‒ SEM) method on data collected through purposive sampling, this study analyzed verbal communication, motivation, creativity, learner interaction with content, gadget use intensity, peer collaborative engagement, academic achievement, and critical thinking. The results showed that verbal communication and learner interaction with content significantly increased motivation and creativity, while excessive gadget use intensity had a negative impact. The indirect effect of learner interaction with content on academic achievement through motivation showed a P-coefficient of 0.027. In contrast, the impact of verbal communication on academic achievement through motivation showed a P-coefficient of 0.014. These findings emphasize the importance of a holistic approach in designing e-learning programs that support verbal communication, active participation, and balanced use of gadgets to improve education quality. Educational institutions are advised to develop effective e-learning programs and explore other factors, such as educational access, that affect learning outcomes in e-learning. © 2024, International Journal of Information and education Technology. Science, technology, engineering , and mathematics (STEM)-integrated project-based learning (PBL) is essential in contemporary education as it improves students’ advanced cognitive capacities, critical thinking aptitude, scientific literacy, and ecological awareness. This study aims to identify and highlight some research publications that examine STEM-integrated PBL to improve students’ biology practical skills in higher education . The author guided the systematic review process with the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses diagram, ensuring a structured approach to article selection. The author selected 24 potential articles for the literature review based on certain inclusion criteria. The chosen articles emphasize the importance of evaluating STEM-integrated PBL to improve biology practicum skills among students in higher education , highlighting the need for quantitative methods such as descriptive surveys and experiments in research. The research article’s findings show a positive trend toward improving educational practices in biology through the integration of STEM in PBL, with a growing body of literature focusing on this area. The findings of this study offer valuable insights for educators to improve students’ biology practical skills in higher education . © 2024 the author(s), published by De Gruyter.

This study examines vocational schools (VS) collaborative ventures, focusing on the VS Center of Excellence and its partnerships with local industries. The research explores how these collaborations shape a skilled workforce by investigating the Link and Match policy’s impact. Specifically studying machining engineering and construction in East Java, the research employs a multi-case qualitative approach to reveal context-specific insights. The study combines qualitative methods like interviews and observations with quantitative techniques such as surveys using a mixed-method approach. The sample comprises internship supervisors from significant industries in East Java, selected through proportionate random sampling. Thematic analysis is used for qualitative data, while descriptive statistics and Likert scale analysis handle quantitative data. The research offers insights into workforce needs by emphasizing technical competencies and soft skills development. It also looks ahead, considering the long-term effects of collaborative initiatives on graduates and industries. The study informs policymakers and educators by identifying challenges and aiming to enhance vocational education strategies. However, it is essential to recognize data collection biases and limitations in generalizability to other locations or sectors, which should be considered when interpreting findings and planning future research. © 2024 the author(s), published by De Gruyter.

Learning for Livelihoods in the Global South: Theoretical and Methodological Lenses on Skills and the Informal Sector

We are concerned in this chapter with better understanding the ways in which skills development can support livelihoods gained in the informal sector. We apply Carswell and De Neve’s (2018) broadened concept of labour agency in the informal sector and draw on Katz’s “3 Rs” of resistance, reworking, and resilience to understand the agency of informal sector workers. From a longitudinal study of 40 young people who made their livelihood (or part thereof) in engineering -related areas in two urban townships in South Africa, we present a typology of five different types of survivalist entrepreneurs. Our typology underscores the diversity, complexity, and messiness of work as it is lived in the informal sector. It discusses the different ways in which workers use their labour agency to make a livelihood for themselves and their families; the different aspirations that they have for work in the informal and formal sectors and for education and training; and the different attitudes that they hold towards their engineering trade. For some, skills development will be better achieved through easier access to formal learning, but there is evidence of social learning networks that are largely outside the formal system. An integral part of every degree program leading to a professional certification, including engineering , is the campus interview. Having every program's student placed is the main objective. Efforts to improve students' placement achievements have led to the inclusion of communication skills in all engineering courses; nonetheless, the curriculum mostly concentrates on developing four language talents. Insufficient emphasis is placed on the significance of employability skills among students. Students should be self-aware about their skill sets, and this essay will make a case for that fact while also outlining why it is important and providing suggestions for how students might showcase their strongest qualifications. The three stages that make up this suggested method are feature selection, model training, and log preprocessing. Initial Preprocessing, Stopwords Removal, Stemming, Lemmatization, and Emoji Recognition are all parts of preprocessing. Picking out features Principal component analysis (PCA) creates a principal component as a linear combination of factor-related observed variables by applying an appropriate weight to each of the variables. A New-A-ResNet-LSTM Ensemble was used all the way through training the model. Compared to LSTM and ResNet, this novel method has a higher average accuracy of 92.95%. © 2024 IEEE.

Today's professional teacher training system includes both professional and pedagogical preparation, the main aim of this training being to further develop the methodological part of the teacher training. In the last three decades, the institutional system and the content of Hungarian VET have been characterised by constant change, significantly influenced by the series of decisions and recommendations on VET in the EU. While continuous structural and content change has updated the VET infrastructure, and modern curricula have been developed, this modernisation has been accompanied by only modest digital and methodological changes. While all the development programmes implemented have made efforts to improve the methodological knowledge of vocational teachers, the results have been less visible in practice. Research on teaching methods and the methodological culture of professional teachers in vocational subjects has been scarcely reported in the professional press. At the same time, the learning environment has changed dramatically over the last decade, and the need for digital education has significantly altered the expectations of teachers in terms of teaching methods. The digital transformation of education is not a digitally-enhanced version of traditional teaching methods, but a new learning environment in terms of approach, requirements, methodology and assessment systems. In our study we want to present an empirical research and its results, as well as new directions for development, which aimed at partially overcoming this methodological gap at the University of Dunaújváros, In this context, we describe in detail the study that was carried out by means of a questionnaire survey and focus group interviews among engineering and vocational students of the institution in 2014 and 2024. © 2024 IEEE.

Virtual Reality (VR) simulation has emerged as a transformative technology with applications spanning various fields such as education , healthcare, training, and entertainment. This research paper explores the advancements, methodologies, and impacts of VR simulation, providing a comprehensive review of current technologies and their implementations.This paper details the development and implementation of a Virtual Reality (VR) walkthrough simulation of a college environment using the Unity game engine. The project aims to offer users an immersive and interactive experience that closely mirrors the sensation of navigating through a physical establishment. The simulation integrates lifelike visuals, intuitive navigation, and interactive elements to create a compelling virtual environment. Through this innovative approach, users can experience a realistic and engaging representation of the college, enhancing their understanding and exploration of the space. Traditional architectural models, typically rendered with pen-and-paper blueprints or clay models, often lack detailed visualization and feasibility for quick modifications. This research explores the advantages of utilizing Virtual Reality (VR) for visualizing architectural models of college environments with significantly enhanced detail, both exterior and interior. VR technology allows for the immediate identification and correction of errors, facilitating rapid and efficient updates. Unlike traditional methods, which require redrawing entire blueprints for minor changes, VR's layered structure permits individual modifications without impacting the whole model. Leveraging the Unity game engine, multiple architects can collaborate seamlessly, working together with clients to develop a satisfactory and detailed VR model of the building. This approach not only improves design accuracy but also enhances collaborative efforts, demonstrating the substantial benefits of VR in modern architectural practices. © 2024 IEEE.
