Behavioral cultural intelligence's role in academic adaptation: mediation by academic self-efficacy using PLS-SEM

Article
This study developed a mediation model consisting of behavioral cultural intelligence, academic self-efficacy, and academic adaptation. With the subscale of the Cultural intelligence Scale, the Academic Adjustment Scale, and the General Academic Self-Efficacy Scale, a questionnaire survey was conducted among a sample of 412 international students at 5 public higher vocational colleges in Guangxi, China. The statistical technique of Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) was employed in the software SmartPLS 4.0 to examine the hypothesized relationships among the targeted variables. Results indicated that behavioral cultural intelligence significantly influences academic self-efficacy and academic adaptation. Moreover, academic self-efficacy significantly influences academic adaptation. Notably, academic self-efficacy significantly mediates the relationship between behavioral cultural intelligence and academic adaptation. These findings emphasized the crucial roles of behavioral cultural intelligence and academic self-efficacy in facilitating academic adaptation for junior college international students, suggesting that educational institutions should recognize and nurture these attributes for enhanced academic experiences. © 2024

Finding the Supervision Key of Therapists’ Progress

Article
The purpose of this study is to compare the differences between Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) student perceptions of (a) types of praise used by MFT supervisors, (b) MFT students’ self-theory of intelligence, and (c) MFT students’ continued development of skills. Four hypotheses were tested stating that different types of praise used by MFT supervisors would have a significant effect on MFT supervisees’ development of skills. Two MANCOVAs were performed, which revealed that therapists praised for their efforts significantly continued to improve their professional skills, while others praised for their ability significantly reduced their efforts in upgrading clinical skills. © 2022 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.

Demographic characteristics and employability skills among tertiary graduates in Ghana: Evidence from the National Service Scheme

Article Open Access
This study examined the effect of demographic characteristics on graduates’ perceptions of employability skills in Ghana. Three demographic characteristics—gender, educational level and sector of national service were used against nine employability skills. The explanatory sequential design from the pragmatists’ philosophical paradigm was adopted for the study. A sample of 2269 national service persons and 363 employers at workplaces where graduates had their national service was drawn from a study population of 77,962. Thirty participants, including 17 graduates and 13 employers, were also interviewed. Data were collected with the help of a questionnaire and a semi-structured interview guide. Data were analysed with descriptive and inferential statistics such as means, standard deviations, Pearson correlation matrix and independent sample t-test. The study found three most important employability skills to employers: the ability to work under pressure with less supervision, the application of computer and technical skills, and processing and interpreting numerical data. A novel finding of the study was that gender and academic qualification were found to have significantly influenced the application of computer and technical skills, numerical data, ability to work under pressure, and entrepreneurial skills. Male graduates had more appreciation for mathematical and information and communication technology (ICT)-related employability skills, while female graduates had a more positive inclination towards emotional intelligence skills and written and verbal communication skills. It was recommended that more attention be given to a partnership between academic institutions, the national service secretariat and the industry to avoid a mismatch between employability skills acquired by graduates and employers’ requirements. The findings of this study, therefore, have implications for teaching pedagogies at tertiary levels and training for job entrants by industry. © 2023 The Author(s). Diversity intelligence: Reimagining and Changing Perspectives

Book Open Access
This book develops and amplifies the emerging concept of diversity intelligence, which is the capability of leaders to recognize the value of workplace diversity and to use this information to guide thinking and behavior. Organization leaders need diversity intelligence to better interact with the changing demographics in the US and the global economy, by embracing differences as strengths rather than weaknesses. Without a clear understanding of diversity, leaders are not fully equipped to realize organizational goals through all employees. The author highlights the importance of reimagining diversity and changing perspectives while integrating it into leadership and career development plans alongside intellectual intelligence, emotional intelligence, and cultural intelligence. In order to fully motivate diverse employees, leaders must first be able to recognize differences between themselves and others without it being an obstacle to performance. This edition addresses new topics related to allyship and anti-racism, and discusses how these concepts can sometimes hinder diversity efforts. This book fits in the literature in areas of leadership and business value and aims to satisfy the need for solutions to why diversity training and management efforts continue to fall short of stated goals within organizations. It is a window into how leaders can reflect on their actions and behaviors to effectively implement new diversity strategies, and is an essential read for HR researchers, professionals, consultants, and managers of global operating companies. © The Editor(s) (ifapplicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.
