This study investigates the impact of varying class durations on student learning and perceptions within design-build studios in a construction program at Mississippi State University. By comparing two cohorts-one from regular fall/spring semesters and another from an intensive summer session-we aimed to understand how different class schedules affect student engagement, productivity, and interest in the construction industry. Utilizing a two-phase survey and thematic analysis, we found significant similarities and differences between the groups. Both cohorts valued hands-on learning and the tiny house project for real-world construction experience. However, differences emerged in their perceptions of lectures, exams, and project management skills, influenced by the distinct time constraints of their respective schedules. The fall/spring cohort highlighted challenges related to balancing studio hours with other commitments, whereas the summer cohort faced intensified demands but reported higher engagement. These findings highlight the importance of tailoring educational approaches to optimize learning outcomes in construction education , suggesting that immersive, intensive formats may enhance practical skills and industry interest while also requiring effective time management strategies and instructional support. © 2024 International Conference on Construction in the 21st Century. Almost all the literature related to engineering education tends to overlook the pre-1994 events and how they may have impacted the current curriculum of the engineering discipline in the South African context. The pre- and post-apartheid engineering curriculum evaluation has been a challenge because of weak episodical and often self-centred discussions related to the matter. There are difficulties in determining the ideological underpinnings of the engineering discipline in South Africa. Therefore, this chapter revisits some events that led to the gradual development of the engineering curriculum in South African higher education pre-1994 and how they shaped the present curriculum since the dawn of democracy. This chapter is based on a comprehensive literature review which traces and reflects on the evolution, role, and structure of the engineering discipline in South Africa pre- and post-1994. The chapter demonstrates through sound arguments that events outside the demarcations of higher education institutions, such as the socio-political and socio-economic events in South Africa, have principally determined curriculum development and changes in the engineering discipline. The Anti-Japanese War catalysed a profound transformation in Chongqing’s higher education system, with the city emerging as a sanctuary for students and scholars fleeing the conflict, which was both devastating and costly for China. This study explores the influence of the Anti-Japanese War on the evolution of Chongqing’s higher education model within the broader context of China’s educational framework. The research considers five key variables: the higher education model, curriculum, enrolment, institutional support, faculty, and student outcomes. A traditional literature review approach was employed, processing a total of 147 articles using MAXQDA software. The study highlights the significant role of the Anti-Japanese War in reshaping Chongqing’s higher education model, particularly in fostering a practical, hands-on approach to education , alongside promoting national unity and patriotism. Furthermore, the support provided by institutions, as well as faculty qualifications and experience, were identified as crucial factors influencing student outcomes. The study also emphasised the teaching and learning styles as key links between the independent and dependent variables. Moreover, the research identified cultural and historical contexts, political and ideological influences, as well as globalisation and internationalisation, as significant moderating factors. The findings offer valuable implications for policymakers, educators, and academics. The paper also acknowledges certain limitations and suggests avenues for further investigation in this area. © 2024 JESTP.

higher education aims to prepare individuals for real- world challenges by equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary for employment. However, higher education institutions face significant challenges in aligning with global standards while addressing local needs and socio- economic crises. A holistic learning experience, characterised by experiential learning opportunities such as internships, is crucial for this preparation. This chapter explores the experiences of students, employers, and teachers with internships as a means of developing real- world skills. Using a qualitative approach, the study sampled 10 students, five teachers, and employers from five departments (education , business, computer science, engineering, and medicine). The findings highlight the role of internships in fostering professional success. Internships enhance skill proficiency, assist students in making informed career decisions, and provide practical learning experiences that are often unavailable in traditional classroom settings. © 2025 by IGI Global Scientific Publishing. The field of education for sustainable development advocates for new teaching methods that offer hands-on, engaging, and transformative learning experiences that encourage critical and systemic thinking within the framework of sustainable development. higher education institutions strive to support the attainment of SDG 4 by promoting inclusive, fair, and high-quality education . Service-learning in higher education is in tune with the educational principles of critical and transformative pedagogy and facilitated through implementation of innovative pedagogical approaches in training professionals that will be socially critical and committed to social transformation, with the goal of achieving a larger social justice. Consequently, one of the major challenges attributed to the lack of social practice and community service in the learning environment leads to the detachment of students to the community, as well as the low social responsibility among the undergraduates. The study aimed to fill the research gap in the literature on the impact of service-learning pedagogies among students based on knowledge, attitude, and spirit and how it is correlated with professional development, personal development, social transactions. Furthermore, this study highlights how civic engagement and sustainable community development, the integral components of service-learning, contribute to and align with the principles of sustainable tourism. The total quality management standards in vocational training and education are crucial for reforming the vocational training system to overcome the shortage of skilled labour in the domestic labour market and diversify the country’s income by exporting surplus labour to foreign markets. To support economic growth, especially in priority sectors, it is necessary to adhere to total quality management standards in Vocational Training and education (used in the process of Institutional and Program Accreditation of educational institutions in Libya and Algeria). The article investigates the compliance of vocational training and education in Algeria with these standards (based on the example of the Center for Vocational Training and Apprenticeship “Ould Cheikh El Arabi” in Relizane). The solution to this research problem is relevant, among other things, because, thanks to regulated state programs in such sectors as construction, public works and agriculture, the Algerian government has allowed construction and contracting companies to hire foreign labour from China, Turkey, Egypt and other countries, which has led to an increase in unemployment in the domestic labour market. That is why it is relevant to identify why the Algerian labour market cannot provide qualified labour to meet the needs of supplier companies and contractors. The study is based on the survey of a random sample of 150 students, 40.43% of the total number of students enrolled at the Centre. To ensure the clarity and coherence of the questionnaire, a preliminary study was conducted with a random selection of 25 students, eliminating linguistic and methodological imbalances. 6 expert reviewers confirmed the validity of the questionnaire content. Reliability was confirmed using Cronbach’s alpha test. The questionnaire’s content is structured according to five main criteria contained in the Total Quality Management Standards in Vocational Training and education , each consisting of a set of indicators and measures to assess the fulfilment degree of the criterion. They evaluate the quality of educational and training programs (6 paragraphs), the quality of teaching staff (6 paragraphs), the quality of students’ affairs (8 paragraphs), the management quality of the educational institution (9 paragraphs), and the quality of structures and services (10 paragraphs). During the questionnaire, students expressed their opinion on the importance of a particular criterion using a five-step Likert scale. Based on the results, the arithmetic means, and standard deviations of the degree of students’ approval of the importance and fulfilment degree of each criterion as a whole and its individual paragraphs were calculated. The influence of these criteria on the dependent variable − the quality of training − was assessed using the Pearson correlation matrix. Based on the study results, several recommendations have been investigated to improve the quality management efficiency of training and education at the Centre. © 2024 by the author.
