Background: Academic stress can negatively influence academic performance, particularly in health science programs with high demands. Objective: To analyze the association between perceived academic stress and academic performance in first-year kinesiology students, considering gender differences and stress dimensions (stressors, reactions, and coping strategies). Methods: This cross-sectional study included 82 students assessed using the SISCO-IIA inventory. Academic performance was measured via final course grades. Descriptive analyses, chi-square tests, t-tests, and binary logistic regression models were applied. Results: Students with high levels of academic stressors were significantly more likely to underperform (OR = 4.62, 95% CI [1.24, 17.22], p = 0.023). Female students reported higher emotional and behavioral responses to stress but were less likely to underperform (OR = 0.30, 95% CI [0.11, 0.79], p = 0.014). Age was not significantly associated with performance (p = 0.433). Conclusion: Academic stress negatively influences academic outcomes among first-year students. Gender differences in stress response patterns may affect vulnerability and coping effectiveness. These findings highlight the need for early screening, targeted interventions, and support systems to mitigate academic stress and promote student success. © © 2025 Granada-Granada, Valencia-Narbona, Lizana and González-Rojas.

Previous research has demonstrated that project-based learning (PjBL) and flipped classroom models can enhance student engagement and academic outcomes, but their combined use in creative writing instruction remains underexplored. This study investigates the effectiveness of a flipped PjBL model in improving creative writing skills in higher education . The research seeks to answer: (1) Does the flipped PjBL model significantly affect creative writing learning outcomes? (2) What is the relationship between student perception, motivation, and learning outcomes? It is hypothesized that the flipped PjBL model positively influences learning outcomes and that student perception and motivation are positively associated with those outcomes. A quantitative quasi-experimental design was used, involving 62 university students aged 19–21, divided into an experimental group (n = 33) and a control group (n = 29) through purposive sampling. Questionnaires measured student perception and motivation. The purpose of this research is to analyze how the integration of digital tools such as Tinkercad and Zoom in particular impacts student learning in a virtual environment. This research uses a quantitative methodology, with a 12-question survey to collect data before and after the 3D design course in engineering, with a representative sample that allows optimizing the generalization of experiences. Statistical tests, both descriptive and inferential, were carried out to determine the relationship between the use of these platforms and academic results. The results show a notable improvement in student learning: this increases the understanding of complex concepts by 75% and increases active participation in virtual sessions by 40%. These results suggest that the combination of Tinkercad and Zoom not only tends to improve interaction, as well as student intervention in general, but also helps the content to be better received by them. The conclusions highlight the need to update the educational curriculum, having become common in higher education to increase the effectiveness of teaching-learning processes. © 2025 Latin American and Caribbean Consortium of Engineering Institutions. This paper examines the role of vocational education and training (VET) in innovation by comparing the participation of VET-qualified employees with that of university graduates such as scientists and engineers. Using individual-level data from the German manufacturing sector, we distinguish between initial VET qualifications (acquired through dual apprenticeships) and higher VET qualifications (e.g. master craftsmen or technicians). The results show that university graduates dominate formal research and development (R&D) activities. However, VET-qualified employees–particularly those with higher VET qualifications–strongly participate in both the invention and implementation phases. Initial VET graduates are especially active in implementation, notably in introducing new machinery, equipment, and technologies. higher VET graduates play a crucial bridging role between R&D and the shop floor, facilitating knowledge transfer across qualification groups. Participation patterns also vary by firm size, with larger firms displaying clearer task allocation and specialisation. Overall, the findings demonstrate that innovation in manufacturing relies on the complementary strengths of vocational and academic qualifications, which are rooted in their respective knowledge types and firm-level modes of learning and innovation. © 2025 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

The article considers the issue of the application of collaborative learning techniques in the process of professional training of IT specialists at higher education institutions. Based on the analysis of scientific publications, it is shown that the theoretical and applied aspects of collaborative learning are thoroughly developed. Therefore, it is necessary to adapt them to solve partial tasks of the educational process. For this purpose, we have designed a collaborative learning framework for Computer Science students training in the field of database design. The framework contains a description of stages of educational interaction between students and the teacher. The main stages of the collaborative learning framework for training in the field of database design: (1) obtaining of theoretical knowledge and formation of primary practical skills; (2) selection of the subject area; (3) conceptual database design; (4) logical database design; (5) physical database design; (6) presentation of results; (7) evaluation of results. The framework was implemented in the teaching of the bachelor course "Databases and Information Systems"at Bogdan Khmelnitsky Melitopol State Pedagogical University. 30 second-year students of the specialties Computer Science and Vocational education (Digital Technologies) took part in the study. There were no statistically significant differences between the studied groups. At the same time, students who worked in teams gained experience in teamwork, awareness of its advantages and difficulties, and skills in peer learning, self-assessment, and peer assessment. The conducted empirical research has shown that the application of collaborative learning techniques has significant educational potential for developing IT students' abilities to teamwork. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

To better apply information technology in vocational education and enhance the quality of skilled talent training, the article constructs a dual-coding analysis framework for higher vocational classroom teaching behavior. It conducts S-T analysis and classroom interaction matrix analysis on nine high-quality higher vocational classrooms characterized by information technology empowerment, refining the teaching models of high-quality higher vocational classrooms under different course types. Then, using lag sequence analysis, it identifies typical teaching behaviors and the characteristics of teaching behavior sequences. Finally, the article proposes strategies to optimize information technology-enabled higher vocational classrooms from three aspects: the creation of teaching environments, the construction of teaching strategies, and the development of teaching resources, with the aim of optimizing teaching efficiency and improving the quality of talent training. © 2025 IGI Global. This study investigates the impact of student engagement practices on skill enhancement in community-centric higher education , with motivation examined as a mediating variable. Engagement is conceptualized as a multidimensional construct, including behavioural, emotional, cognitive, and experiential components, along with faculty support and peer collaboration. Data were collected from 500 students across five cities in Uttar Pradesh, India, using a structured questionnaire. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was employed to analyze the proposed relationships. The analysis revealed that all engagement dimensions significantly influence motivation, which in turn strongly predicts skill enhancement in students. Experiential learning and peer collaboration showed the highest direct and indirect effects on engagement. Motivation emerged as a key mediator, linking engagement to outcomes such as improved communication, leadership, and critical thinking skills. The model demonstrated strong reliability, validity, and predictive accuracy. The study offers practical implications for curriculum development, faculty training, and institutional policy by emphasizing the value of active, collaborative, and community-based learning practices. Limitations include the regional sample and cross-sectional design, indicating the need for future research using longitudinal and mixed-method approaches across broader contexts. © 2025 Econjournals. Studies have examined the reforms in program duration, and socioeconomic status (SES) to proffer possible solutions to alleviate the impact of SES on graduates’ success. However, the impact of SES persists and is aggravated by inequalities and an inflexible TVET (Technical and Vocational education and Training) pathway to university. This study explored whether a reform in program type and duration may contribute to the SES discrimination of TVET graduates. The sample population comprised 660 graduates from Sichuan Province, China. Secondary data was analyzed via a cross-sectional survey using group regression. The findings showed that the effects of SES on graduates’ success are moderated by program duration (β = −0.383, p < .01), and that the moderating effect of program duration on graduates’ success remains consistent across the three program types: digital-paradigm discipline (β = −0.251, p < .05), low-paradigm discipline (β = −0.889, p < .001), and high-paradigm discipline (β = −0.385, p < .05). Additionally, the nature of the program strongly moderates the success of graduates in digital-paradigm (β = −0.007, p < .05) and low-paradigm (β = −0.003, p < .05) disciplines. This article enriches the discourse on TVET education by suggesting equal education from basic to tertiary education so that the SES effect on education is addressed. The paper argued that educational reforms should prevent SES discrimination and ensure better success for TVET graduates. © The Author(s) 2025

An information system that facilitates the search for first jobs and internships by students of higher education institutions has been developed in the form of a web application. The corresponding platform, among other things, ensures interaction between students, employers, internship supervisors from the educational institution and a person authorised to sign on behalf of the higher education institution. The paper describes the architecture of the system, its functionality, and analyses of similar platforms. Particular attention is paid to the issue of automating the process of selecting a practice base. The development is an example of the introduction of information technology into the educational process and can be adapted for other educational institutions. © 2025 IEEE.

In connection with Russia’s withdrawal from the Bologna Process, approaches to the organization of domestic higher education are being revised. But this mainly concerns the issue of level-based education . At the same time, Russia’s entry into the Bologna Process has led to changes not only in the levels of higher education , but also in some of its other aspects. One of these aspects is the competency-based approach to learning. This article examines the question of whether it is subject to revision in connection with a possible future reorganization of higher education in Russia. To answer this question, the authors assess the current state of the competency-based approach to learning in higher education in Russia. This assessment is determined on the basis of a study of the current level of interpretation of the essence of the competency-based approach and related concepts in scientific and regulatory literature, the degree of development of competency systems used in Russian universities, the current state of the criteria used to assess the formation of competencies, as well as the perception of the competency-based approach by students and university teachers. As a result of the conducted research, both positive and problematic aspects of the application of the competence-based approach to training in higher education in Russia at the current stage of its development are identified and systematized. The article substantiates and brings up for discussion three possible scenarios for the future use of the competence-based approach in the process of further development of higher education in Russia. The opinion on the most appropriate and probable of these scenarios is argued. Recommendations for the implementation of this scenario are substantiated.
