AI and emerging digital worlds as a tool, not a replacement

This chapter explores how artificial intelligence (AI) and immersive technologies are reshaping education while reaffirming the essential role of educators. AI supports adaptive learning, gamification, and workforce readiness, yet cannot replace human traits like empathy and ethical judgment (Papert, 1980; Johnson, 2022). Grounded in critical posthumanism (Bayne, 2015) and digital ethics (Selwyn, 2019), the chapter shows how AI-through tools like digital twins, XAI, and educational games-can personalize learning, support equity, and enhance CTE programs (Holmes et al., 2022; Stone et al., 2021). Educators remain central to interpreting AI feedback, fostering reflection, and ensuring student well- being (UNESCO, 2021). The chapter emphasizes that responsible implementation requires teacher agency, data transparency, and strategic policy. Ultimately, it argues for a collaborative model where AI enhances, not replaces, human- centered education. © 2026, IGI Global Scientific Publishing.

This research paper investigates effective strategies for teaching Science, Technology, engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), specifically emphasizing electricity and magnetism, in the context of electrical engineering education within vocational schools in Indonesia. The study aims to address the challenges faced by educators in delivering these essential concepts and identify innovative approaches to enhance student learning outcomes. STEM education plays a vital role in fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity among students, preparing them for careers in various fields, including electrical engineering. However, teaching complex subjects like electricity and magnetism demands effective pedagogical methods that bridge theoretical knowledge with real-world applications. This research explores the current practices of vocational schools in Indonesia, investigating the extent to which hands-on learning experiences are integrated into the curriculum to develop practical skills. Using a mixed-methods approach, qualitative data is collected through interviews with educators and industry professionals, while quantitative data is gathered through surveys or questionnaires. The research uncovers effective teaching strategies that promote active student engagement, such as interactive demonstrations, real-world case studies, laboratory experiments, and project-based learning. The outcomes of this research contribute to the advancement of STEM education in vocational schools, particularly in the domain of electrical engineering. By exploring and implementing effective teaching strategies, educators can cultivate a skilled workforce that meets the demands of the rapidly evolving technology sector, fostering innovation and sustainable growth in Indonesia. © 2025 Author(s).

Exploring Innovative Pedagogical Approaches to Foster Sustainability in Online Learning Environments

This study investigates creative pedagogical techniques to promote sustainability in online learning settings. It emphasises the importance of rethinking established tactics for engaging pupils in real-world sustainability concerns. The research focuses on strategies such as problem-based learning (PBL), project-based learning, and collaborative learning that improve critical thinking, problem-solving, and life skills. These techniques position students as engaged learners, encouraging a greater knowledge of sustainability. The challenges of student disengagement and outmoded technologies in online education are addressed by suggesting dynamic instructional approaches and interactive tools. The study also emphasises the need of assessment methodologies that go beyond standard testing, such as sustainability awareness, understanding, and community participation. Finally, the study emphasises the responsibility of higher education institutions to implement best practices. © 2026 by IGI Global Scientific Publishing. All rights reserved.

CRTP: learning model for integrating STEM competencies in pre-service biology teachers

The development of education shows the importance of integrating science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) in schools and preparing teachers who are ready to implement STEM in the classroom. This study aims to describe prospective teachers' perceptions of STEM competencies through the collaborative reflective teaching practice (CRTP) model in micro teaching courses. The method used was qualitative using interview assessment and questionnaire of STEM perception. This study used an experimental design conducted with 3 activities (initial test, teaching practice, and final test). The initial test and final test used a STEM perception questionnaire. Teaching practice in the form of applying the CRTP model which consists of 4 stages, namely plan, simulation, implementation, and reflection. The results of the study describe that STEM competencies develop well with the CRTP model. The questionnaire results showed that 96.2% of respondents strongly agreed that the CRTP model had proven valid for developing STEM competencies of prospective biology teachers. This research contributes to educators who prioritize meaningful learning experiences for prospective biology teachers. The authors suggest that effective STEM competencies should incorporate five main components: i) reflection, ii) collaboration, iii) integration of interdependent STEM disciplines, iv) skills related to STEM disciplines, and v) integrative STEM teaching and learning. © 2025, Intelektual Pustaka Media Utama. Advancing practice-oriented education in the training of future pedagogic psychologists

This research aims to explore the characteristics of practice-oriented training within universities and identify the psychological and pedagogical factors that influence the development of professional competencies in future specialists. A comprehensive combination of content analysis of training conditions for future professionals in higher education and an analytical review of the formation of professional competencies among teacher-psychologists in the context of educational system modernization were applied. The conclusions highlight the challenges of implementing practice-oriented training in Kazakhstan’s higher education system, detailing its forms and methods in preparing competitive and competent specialists. Additionally, the study addresses strategies for effectively organizing pedagogical conditions that foster the development of core competencies in future professionals within social and psychological fields. The findings are critical for educators educating future teacher-psychologists, as they emphasize practice-oriented methods during educational modernization. © 2025, Institute of Advanced engineering and Science. Gender differences in motivation and problem-solving in a physics course online problem-based learning

Online learning has been crucial since COVID-19, yet its effectiveness, particularly in physics education, remains debated. Understanding students’ motivation and problem-solving abilities in online environments is critical. This paper examined and presented the gender difference in motivation and problem-solving skills using an integrated online problem-based learning (iON-PBL) in a physics course. Developed using analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation (ADDIE) mode, iON-PBL module of physics guided students through problem-solving activities over 13 weeks. A post-test–delayed post-test design was used to assess retention of motivation and problem-solving skills. The study involved 116 pre-university students from Universiti Malaysia Sabah (88 females, 28 males). Motivation was measured using the motivated strategies for learning questionnaire (MSLQ) (four components), and problem-solving skills were assessed with the problem-solving inventory (PSI) (three components). Data analysis was conducted using SPSS version 28. Findings showed a significant gender difference in the ‘cognitive strategy’ component of motivation at the post-test, favoring female students. However, this difference was not sustained in the delayed post-test. In contrast, no gender difference was found in problemsolving at the post-test, but females scored significantly higher in ‘personal control’ in the delayed post-test. These findings suggest that female students are more likely to maintain cognitive strategies and personal control in online learning. Educators should consider targeted strategies to support male students’ motivation and problem-solving development in virtual environments to foster gender equity. In the dynamic and complex context surrounding the fourth and fifth industrial revolution, dominated by volatility and uncertainty, the importance of communication training, particularly in developing soft skills, is evident. This study advocates for the inclusion of these competencies in higher education and professional training in communication, ensuring they align with the current needs of the Spanish labor market. The gap between the competencies taught and those required by employers is examined to strengthen the connection between academic training at university level and work adaptability. It emphasizes the need for greater alignment between academic profiles and job demands, proposing comprehensive search and analysis methods for improvement. Artificial intelligence competencies of vocational teachers using for the design of learning activities

Currently, information technology used in teaching and learning management is constantly evolving. Therefore, the development of vocational teachers’ artificial intelligence competencies (AIC) of vocational teachers using artificial intelligence (AI) for the design of learning activities using questions is to develop the ability to use information technology in teaching and learning management with an emphasis on the use of AI for education. Teachers in the college received practical training on the application of AI in teaching and learning management. In using AI, which creates knowledge and understanding for teachers, it can be applied in the design of learning activities. From allowing teachers to practice, this has a positive effect on the increase in AI skills of teachers from before attending the training. Overall, vocational teachers have a great level of AIC; the average score is 21.72 points and from the assessment of overall satisfaction at the highest level. The training content is suitable for the current situation. The knowledge gained can be used to benefit in organizing teaching activities. The transformative power of mentorship on novice teacher success: a recent systematic literature review (2022-2024)

This study examines the transformative impact of mentorship in building resilience and enhancing success among novice teachers. By identifying effective mentorship strategies and frameworks, the research addresses critical early-career challenges, supports teacher retention, and contributes to the global aim of quality education. Using a systematic literature review (SLR) guided by preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and metaanalyses (PRISMA) methodology, the study analyzed 45 articles from Scopus and ERIC databases, covering publications from 2022 to 2024. Through qualitative thematic analysis, three main themes emerged: emotional and psychological support in mentoring, mentoring models and professional development frameworks, and cultural and contextual influences on mentoring. Findings suggest that mentorship is pivotal in helping novice teachers navigate stress, improve instructional skills, and adapt to diverse school environments. Limitations include the restricted scope to select databases, potentially omitting other relevant studies. Future research could broaden the literature base and assess mentoring’s long-term impacts across varied educational contexts. This study contributes to the field by highlighting mentorship’s essential role in fostering resilience among novice teachers, aligning with sustainable development goal 4 (SDG 4) to promote teacher retention and educational quality. © 2025, Institute of Advanced engineering and Science. Work-integrated curriculum transformation and autopedagogical competence in prospective teachers

Despite substantial investments in higher education, many Kazakhstani graduates face challenges in securing employment due to a lack of essential job-related competencies. The predominant discipline-based learning approach in Kazakhstani universities often fails to cultivate autopedagogical competence—a critical skill for applying knowledge in real-world contexts and solving practical problems. This study aims to examine the impact of work-integrated curriculum (WIC) transformation on the development of student autopedagogical competence (SAC). A non-experimental quantitative research design was employed, utilizing survey techniques to collect data from a sample of 180 students in Kazakhstan. The sample was determined through random stratified sampling to ensure representativeness. Data analysis was conducted using structural equation modeling (SEM) to identify relationships between dependent (autopedagogical competence), independent (WIC transformation), and moderating variables. The findings reveal that curriculum transformation has a significant and positive impact on the development of autopedagogical competencies. Students exposed to work-integrated learning (WIL) demonstrate stronger self-directed learning capabilities, enhancing their readiness for workforce integration and lifelong professional development. These insights highlight the necessity of innovative curriculum strategies to bridge the gap between academic learning and practical skill acquisition, offering valuable guidance for educators seeking to improve vocational education outcomes. © 2025, Institute of Advanced engineering and Science.
